Quality Control

Wither Moisture – maintaining consistent withered leaf moisture is the key to controlling quality along the whole line. Our experience is that the wither moisture data in the factory daily record book is often fictional. While NIR (being instantaneous and non destructive) is undoubtedly the best tool for monitoring wither moisture, the automated PMB Quartz Halogen Moisture Analyser (PMB-01). This instrument can be utilised to monitor withered leaf or dhool moisture and can greatly decrease the input moisture variability due to guesswork. However, whichever method is used to monitor withering, it is the trough sampling technique that largely determines precision – we can assist you with methodology

Firing QC – have you ever checked on the avoidable quality losses arising from your drying? The Teacraft Mini Fluid Bed Drier (240 VAC 50 Hz or 110 VAC) can be set to match your factory drier specification but, unlike your factory drier, due to its precision electronic control it can actually achieve and hold the set conditions. Parallel drying of a sample of dhool from your fermenter will soon show how much potential value is being lost in your drier – you will be truly amazed. Experimenting with the versatile Teacraft FBD will soon show you the very best drying conditions for your tea and provide data to allow you to modify your full scale driers. Features variable airflow, variable inlet temperature (from ambient up to 180º C), PID controller, fluidisation easily observed, exhaust temperature can be monitored with suitable sensor, manual or timed runs, will dry up to one litre of dhool to 3% mc in 20 minutes. Ruggedly constructed for tea industry conditions. Use the Teacraft Mini FBD in combination with Teacraft data logging equipment to fully understand what’s going on in the middle of your driers.

Sortation QC – ensuring that your final product is manufactured to specification will maximise its market value and enhance your reputation as a producer. This care requires the right equipment – we can advise on all QC aspects.

Laboratory Sieve Shaker – hand shaking of test sieves gives very variable results: for really accurate and reproducible PSA (Particle Size Analysis) of your tea grades you will require a mechanical sieve shaker. This equipment also allows you to monitor for unwanted fine dust in tea bag blends. Our super quality sieve shaker (230 VAC 50 Hz, or 110 VAC) will accept up to eight stacked sieves and incorporates a simplified clamping system. The controls allow vibration amplitude to be adjusted to suit individual requirement, and run timing can be set from 0 to 99 minutes. Featuring electromagnetic operation the sieving process is virtually silent.

Test sieves – the accuracy and consistency of factory tea grading can be checked and recorded using test sieves with meshes of certified quality. Individual tea grade sizing varies between companies but the sieve set suggested below spans most CTC production. If you submit to us typical samples of your grades we will specify mesh sets to suit your production – Orthodox or CTC. Note that a sieve set needs a receiver and lid if you do not already have these items.

Specification

Set of five 200 mm diameter, certified precision sieves (BSI or ISO as required) with stainless steel sides and mesh, (sizes: 2.0 mm retains oversize tea; 1.7 mm retains BOP, 1.0 mm retains BOPF; 0.5 mm retains PF, and 0.355 mm retains PD). Requires receiver and lid set.

Tea moisture – high moisture ex drier or when picked up in the sorting room is tea’s worst enemy, therefore an accurate moisture meter is perhaps the most important QC instrument in the Tea Room. See the PMB – 01 Quartz Halogen Moisture Analyser (PMB-01) for fast and high accuracy with results downloadable to printer or computer.
